The federal government has announced a significant investment in an Aboriginal research project at Thompson Rivers University that will examine unique cultural and traditional Aboriginal knowledge to improve social work and human service field education at the local and global level.

Ashok Mathur has entered the popular 3-Day Novel writing contest, which is based in Vancouver, and will be writing from midnight, Friday, Sept. 3 through until midnight, Monday, Sept. 5, right from the famous Freemont Block on Victoria Street.

Funded by BC Hydro and conducted by Prism Engineering Limited (Prism), a BC-based consulting firm that specializes in energy efficiency, the report is part of an ongoing cooperative effort between TRU and BC Hydro to reduce the university’s energy demand, and in turn, reduce campus greenhouse gas emissions.

The house is the product of a collaboration among several organizations, including the Canadian Home Builders Association, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. and Thompson Rivers University, and is one of 15 CMHC supported ‘Equilibrium’ green home projects that are either complete or underway across Canada.

Kamloops is in the final stage of competition against Kelowna and Prince George to be the host community of the 2015 Canada Winter Games. The Canada Games Bid Evaluation Committee will return to Kamloops for its second visit on Tuesday, August 10th. This is their final visit before making their decision in September.

A partnership of TRU graduates and the Adventure Studies Department has developed a youth kayaking camp running August 16 to 20.
The camp has been designed as an introduction to white-water kayaking and a tool for personal growth. It will focus on kayak skills and safe practices, team building, leadership and environmental sustainability.
